Some days aren't about the job search at all — they're about just sitting down and doing the work.
Day 8 felt different.
This journey is starting to feel like more than just finding a job or preparing for interviews. Some days, it feels like I'm fighting myself just to sit down and do the work.
I woke up early, but it still took me 20–30 minutes to get out of bed. When I finally sat down to study system design, I couldn't stay awake. I fell asleep on the chair, woke up, tried again, and fell asleep again.
It was frustrating.
I'd already taken Saturday off to rest, so I kept asking myself why my body was still resisting when I knew there was work that needed to be done.
The job search wasn't helping either. I didn't receive any calls that day, and LinkedIn felt almost completely silent. It's strange how different things feel when you're employed versus when you're actively looking. When I had a job, there were plenty of people reaching out with opportunities. Now that I've removed my current company from LinkedIn, it feels like I've almost disappeared from the platform.
But the day wasn't completely unproductive.
I spent some time improving my website and adding the blogs and content I've been creating throughout this journey. While working on it, I had another realization about where software development is heading.
Building a web application today feels incredibly easy compared to what it used to be. With AI and newer tools, even people without a traditional coding background can build software themselves.
That made me think about the future of software engineering.
If software is becoming more of a commodity, the value of simply knowing how to write code may continue to decrease. The opportunity might move towards people who understand what to build, why to build it, and how to solve problems with these new tools.
I watched a Y Combinator video that reinforced this thought: whenever something new emerges, it also creates new opportunities.
Maybe that's where I need to look next.
The industry is changing, and I need to change with it. I don't know exactly what that next version looks like yet, but I know standing still isn't an option.
At the end of the day, I took some time to step back and think about what's working and what's not.
And honestly?
Not everything is right right now.
But that's okay.
That's exactly why I'm documenting this journey.
Day 8 wasn't a day of big achievements. It was a day of confronting where I am, questioning where the industry is going, and realizing that I need to keep evolving.
Tomorrow is another chance to make things a little better.
