Day 4 made me realize that finding a new job isn't just about getting better at what you already know. It's also about understanding what the market expects from you.
After spending most of my career specializing in frontend development, I've started looking beyond just frontend development. The interviews I've experienced so far have made one thing clear: fundamentals still matter a lot. I've been asked everything from basic HTML concepts to deep dives into projects I've built, along with DSA and other technical areas.
That made me rethink how I want to prepare.
My core strength is still frontend, but I want to build on top of that with DSA, system design, and eventually AI. For frontend itself, there's much more than simply converting a Figma design into an application. Performance, optimization, testing, accessibility, and architecture are all part of being a strong frontend engineer.
I'm also realizing that everyone learns differently.
For me, YouTube is often a good starting point because it helps me understand what a technology or topic actually looks like in practice. From there, I can go deeper into books, documentation, and codebases. Once I understand what the code is doing and why it works, I start getting the bigger picture.
The challenge is breaking away from the way we were taught to learn—where someone gives you material, you study it, and then you're tested on it.
At this stage of my career, I need to be able to teach myself.
That's probably one of the biggest shifts I'm experiencing during this journey.
I'm also coming out of a fairly intense period of work over the last year and a half, so I know I can't simply switch everything back on overnight. I need to rebuild the momentum gradually and find a sustainable pace.
Day 4 wasn't just another preparation day.
It was about understanding where I stand, what the market expects, and how I need to evolve beyond my existing skill set.
The foundation is already there.
Now it's time to build on top of it.
