Day 31: Recovering Faster, Not Having Perfect Days

One rejection, one interview that went deeper than expected, and a break that didn't spiral into a lost day — progress is starting to look like faster recovery, not perfection.

Day 31 felt different in a quiet way.

Four interviews were lined up for this week — two first rounds and two second rounds. One has already ended with a rejection. Today's interview felt good, although the interviewer pushed much deeper into the technical details than I expected. It was less about surface-level understanding and more about being able to explain the reasoning behind what I've worked on.

I walked away feeling that I handled it better than I would have a few weeks ago. There's a certain calmness coming into the interviews now. I'm not as tense about every question, and even when the conversation gets technically deeper, I feel more comfortable staying with it.

That matters.

The next two interviews are second rounds, happening Thursday and Friday, so most of my attention right now is going toward being ready for them. At this point, there isn't much value in worrying about what the outcome will be. The useful thing is to prepare as well as I can and show up properly.

A Break That Didn't Spiral

Outside the interviews, I noticed something else today. I felt a little restless, and I took more breaks than I normally would. A few weeks ago, that might have easily turned into losing the entire day.

This time, it didn't.

That's probably one of the more meaningful changes in this journey. I'm becoming more conscious of the point where a break stops being a break and starts becoming a way of slipping back into the old loop. The last couple of weeks have already shown me how easily that can happen.

So this week, I'm trying to push harder — but with more awareness.

The system of dividing the day into four blocks has actually been helping. Giving different parts of the day their own purpose makes it easier to work, rest, and still have space for things outside interview preparation. I'm not trying to squeeze every possible minute out of the day anymore. I'm trying to make the time I have work better.

A Numbers and Consistency Game

There's still another problem I need to solve: the interview pipeline for next week.

No new calls came in today. I've seen several LinkedIn posts and opportunities that could potentially turn into interviews, but simply seeing them isn't enough. I need to follow up, reach out to recruiters, and push the emails I've already sent. Even if only a fraction of those conversations convert, a few more interviews could come out of it.

That part of the job search is becoming a numbers and consistency game.

So right now there are really two things happening in parallel: preparing for the interviews already scheduled and creating enough opportunities for the weeks after them.

The interesting part is that I don't feel as overwhelmed by either anymore.

There's still uncertainty. There's still rejection. There are still days when the rhythm feels slightly off. But the difference is that I'm getting better at noticing it before it turns into a complete derailment.

Maybe that's what progress looks like at this stage — not having perfect days, but recovering faster and staying in the flow.

Day 31 done.
